I'm trying to lighten the hair dyed black to medium brown. How I can do this?

I dyed my hair black for about 4 months I am trying to clarify my hair medium brown. I need to know how to do it without going to a salon. Should I use Bleach and water color, or simply to lighten the tone I want? Approximately how many levels is it?
