Synthetic vs leather?

So I'm slowly toward the possession of a horse. Most have hiking trails and other things I need it comfortable for me and the horse and durable. I wonder what are the advantages and disadvantages of synthetic vs. leather? And as they are, what would be the best synthetic material and why (if they were forced to choose)? I got into a saddle and resistance of Abeta loved the atmosphere more than any western saddle I've used. But it has nylon and synthetic saddles may stink heard – that it be prevented? Synthetic: a cheaper price, easy maintenance (cleaning) does not hold as leather. No "look good" in a show (probably not important for you and only trace).
